When setting our personal goal, we tend to keep it in our mind and drive to get it. That is sufficient for a simple goal. For the longer goal with multiple tasks or processes involved, it is best to break it down to 3-month time frame - Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4. Then assign tasks to each quarter. List external obstacles to overcome, seek support (from friends/family/boss) you need, and gather your usual patterns/habits that delay achieving the goal.
